Branson-sponsored Carbon War Room launches RenewableJetFuels.org

Today saw the unveiling of the RenewableJetFuels.org by Carbon War Room, an independent non profit organisation sponsored by Sir Richard Branson. Renewable JetFuels is a first online service which will profile the “best and the not-so-good” renewable fuel jet flights. War Room says they have chosen to focus on the aviation industry because the sector is on top of people’s minds although policy is still an issue. The organisation’s Mark Randy says they intend to accelarate renewable fuel jet planes from the test stages to full-time usability. War Room says the interest in Papua New Guinea is because their organisation is embarking on public private partnerships, especially in areas “with little head-wind.” The company says it supports global initiatives that aim at improving the situation around Climate Change, providing grounds where competitive fuels will be ranked and statistics made available. Availing statistics on industry developments will be achieved through their partnership with Elsevier Biofuel Techselect, which launched and will maintain the project. According to War Room’s Jose Maria Figueres, who is also the former president of Costa Rica, 50% of carbon emissions today can be reduced by corporates without any regulatory and policy interventions. He says it is under such auspices that Costa Rica managed, years ago, to pass Carbon Tax laws, putting the country ahead of many in terms of being leader in this regard.
