Governor attends solar factory opening | SignOnSanDiego.com

— Gov. Jerry Brown was joined Friday by a host of public officials at a dedication ceremony for a factory that will serve as headquarters for producing efficient photovoltaic modules for capturing the sun’s energy. French semiconductor materials manufacturer Soitec is setting up shop in a Rancho Bernardo building acquired from SONY. It will produce concentrated photovoltaic modules that focus sunlight into small solar cells using optical lenses. The factory, slated to open in October, is expected to employ 450 full-time workers and have a manufacturing capacity of 200 megawatts per year, enough to power about 80,000 homes. Brown and the other officials lauded the new factory as an example for business in California because it creates jobs that will pay well and works toward addressing energy needs in a way that benefits the environment.
