he government will consider "other appeal options" if its legal bid to backdate cuts to solar power subsidies is rejected today in the High Court. A judge will today decide whether or not to hear an appeal lodged by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) against a previous ruling, which concluded that proposals to halve feed-in tariff rates for new solar installations ahead of the close of a consultation on the changes was "unlawful".
The government lodged an appeal against the ruling on 4 January in a move much criticised by the solar industry, which has accused ministers of subjecting the sector to weeks of confusion over the current level of incentives.
