Masdar City The Future of Sustainable Design (Part 1)

Masdar City Photo Tour: The Future of Sustainable Design (Part 1)

by Evan Scandling - November 2010

Members of NW Cleantech's editorial staff recently had the unique opportunity to tour Masdar City, known in global cleantech circles as one of the world's most ambitious efforts to achieve low carbon, energy efficient and sustainable design for communities of the future. On the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the project is a facet of the Masdar Initiative, a government-backed project created to amplify the region's investment, research, implementation and utilization of renewable energy and clean technologies.

Masdar City is the living, breathing product of the Initiative's objective to catalyze cleantech growth; the planned 6 square kilometer urban development showcases an assortment of cleantech, ranging from the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) vehicles, to the energy efficiency terra cotta structure design, to the rooftop solar panel array.

The following photo spread is just the first offering of the NW Cleantech tour - plenty more Masdar City images to come...
