China steps up efforts to meet EU cut-off date for carbon credits


China last month approved 139 new Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in a last-ditch effort to maximise offset supply to the EU emissions trading scheme.

Finland emissions jump 13 percent in 2010, exceed Kyoto target


Finland’s greenhouse gas emissions shot up 13 percent in 2010 as the country’s industry recovered from a recessionary slump, increasing the likelihood the government will need to buy carbon credits to meet its Kyoto target, a report showed on Friday.

China tells pilot ETS regions to set absolute CO2 caps


China has told seven cities and provinces that will host pilot emissions trading schemes to impose absolute caps on emissions and draw up allocation plans as soon as possible, in a bid to launch the markets in 2013 as planned.
